Design for change –
how to use change-oriented adult education to solve digitalisation challenges?
This is an exploratory course to the concept of change-oriented adult education and how it can be used to manage the challenges of digitalization in individual lives, communities and society in general.
It highlights the core pillars of the concept of change-oriented adult education, and offers practical tips on how and when to use its specific methods to address challenges caused by digitalisation.
The course will also provide examples of good practices as well as insights from trainers and learners, who have experience of change-oriented adult education.
Through this course you will:
- Understand what are the specifics of change-oriented adult education and how to apply it within your area of work.
- Gain the overview of different change-oriented approaches and their theoretical background.
- Explore new change-oriented teaching and learning practices and tools that can be used in adult education to face the digitalisation challenges.
Structure of the course and methodology:
The course runs officially from the 27th of April 2020 to the 7th of July 2020, but modules can be completed until the end of the project (31/08/2021). The course is taking place on this online learning platform. You can attend the whole course or individual modules.
The course is composed of 5 modules which will last officially two weeks:
- What is change-oriented adult education?
- Which digitalisation challenges adult education providers are confronted with?
- Change-oriented adult education and digitalisation: practices, methods, and tools
- Experiences with change-oriented adult education, lessons learned
- Use of digital games in change-oriented adult education
Each module provides a mix of live webinars/podcasts/videos, resources, forum discussions, and self-study. The course material will be accessible online for the whole duration of the project, but some badges can be earned only until the end of the course.
The community aspect is one of the strongest elements of the course, so participants are invited to use the platform’s forum to exchange ideas,
inputs, and proposals. The content planned and methodology used in this course has been shaped by a co-design survey circulated among partners' dissemination channels.
This course targets adult education providers, organisations, and policy makers who wish to explore new ways to engage with their learners.
How to enrol
The study language is English and the training is free of charge.
You can enrol in each module separately. Once you click on the module, first you have to log in or create your account (if you have not done it before). Then you can enrol as a student. After enrolling you will be able to see the full programme of the sessions included in the module. The website will guide you in the process.

Recognition of participants’ learning outcomes
For each module, participants will receive a learning badge (5 in total). A final certificate is foreseen for participants who will miss maximum one module (around 80% of attendance).
